RKS server starts up easily whenever there is a server update. In fact, the goldrush server filled up within a matter of minutes. Unfortunately, retaining all those players is another story.

I have started up a 2fort server for those who like 2fort better. It will have some customized addons installed on it soon, so let's hope that it fares better than the goldrush.

In either case, I wish to have both of these servers to be populated. For the moment until I determine the demand on the 2fort and the goldrush servers, pyters are given out only for playing on the goldrush. I will announce if I decide to allow pyyters for the 2fort server as well.

Another issue is that some wish to have all random criticals disabled. Tell me what you think here and it may come true!

Okay so it has been couple hours now since Odyssey took over the functions of the web site. It seems to be doing a lot better now. Performance is much greater than the older version, and darth's DoS attacks failed to bring the server down. Although the server is still vulnerable to DoS attacks, it should withstand it a lot more easily than before.

I have also spent some time improving the loading performance of RKSzone. My particular concern is that the main page alone is 763KB large. I have improved this down to 668KB in size, so that's about 12% improvement in loading time incurred simply by transferring the files.

I have no reduced the size of the front page to 334KB. There should be a 400KB size reduction of most pages in the rks website also.

I have spent a lot more time today improving the web server preformance. The website is now running FastCGI with multiple different cache and code compilers/optimizers running. MySQL queries are being resolved 33% faster on the forums and 70% faster on the CMS. The page load time has also decreased overall by on average 40%. Furthermore, the server will be capable of a lot more simultaneous requests as the server will no longer render the site for every request if nothing has changed. I hope these are helpful for those who have complained to me in the past that the webpage loads too slowly.

Furthermore, some optimizations were done to sourcebans, which should load the ban list 90% quicker, and the main page 40% quicker.

HLSTATSX site should open up 50% quicker and SQL queries should be executed 10% faster.

There are however issues with running FastCGI so if you see any bugs, please make a bug report on the projects site or send me a message on friends ASAP. Thank you!

CS:S Beta

Well, CS:S beta seems to be the same damn thing as the regular CS:S with the achievements added on and some GUI improvements.

Well, CS:S beta seems to be the same damn thing as the regular CS:S with the achievements added on and some GUI improvements.

On the server side of things, it runs on the Orangebox TF2 engine.
In a way this should have increased some security related issues, however, the OB engine does use significantly more processing power and memory. I guess it's a mix of good and bad.

Sorry to all those who didn't get into the beta. On another note: It took forever to get the server setup. More time was consumed that usual. Firstly, since this was a new game with a new command for updating, I had to create a new profile in TCAdmin. Then when that was done, I had to download it via the hldsupdatetool (hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game cssbeta -dir D:\CSSB). When that was done, I had to spend time to upload all the addons... which ended up not working. Once the issues were finally resolved with the crappy connection I have right now (I am not home, but rather at the school that I do TA and office hours) there were so many servers out there that the server was a lot harder to fill up than the instant fille up everyone experienced earlier today.

Regardless, the server has been given access to ample processing power so it should provide a pretty good experience to those who wish to try it.

Too bad that this isn't a server that would exactly bring more traffic to RKS.
